What is BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring®?
BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring® is a pioneering and award-winning remote cardiac monitoring system. It is the most user-friendly, most clinically actionable cardiac remote monitoring solution available today(TRUST). Designed for ease of use and high reliability, BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring automatically collects data from the patient’s device every night, typically while the patient sleeps. This data allows physicians to review cardiac function.
The system is also capable of detecting and alerting physicians to relevant changes in patient health and the device status. BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring provides enhanced efficiency for clinics and peace of mind for patients. BIOTRONIK was the first to offer worldwide cellular connectivity, the first to offer a mobile patient transmitter, and the first to develop an intelligent “traffic light“ system for efficient alert management. BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring is also the only remote monitoring system to be approved by the FDA for early detection and as a replacement for device interrogation during in office follow ups.
HOME MONITORING COVERS PATIENTS IN MORE THAN 65 COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE AND IS AVAILABLE FOR HEART PATIENTS WITH:
Cardiac monitors.
Pacemakers
Implantable defibrillators (ICDs)
Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) dev
How Home Monitoring Works
1. Cardiac Device with Integrated RF-Antenna Devices equipped with Home Monitoring have additional storage capacity and contain a small RF-antenna for wireless communication and data transmission from the implant to a wireless patient device, the CardioMessenger. Home Monitoring has a negligible impact on device longevity.
2. A Web-Based Monitoring PlatformThe transmitted patient and device data are collected, automatically analyzed and filtered at the BIOTRONIK HMSC, according to patients‘ needs as defined by their physician. Health and system-related issues are ranked in order of importance according to the physician defined alert status. Important alerts can be sent immediately to a patient’s care team via text message, email or fax. All event and trend reports can be accessed and reviewed through a secure website.
3. The CardioMessenger Patient Device Every night, the CardioMessenger automatically collects and transmits important encrypted health information, includingdevice-related and patient clinical data, to the BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring Service Center (HMSC) using mobile cellular technology.
The Benefits of BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring
Remote patient management with Home Monitoring offers the opportunity to deliver intelligent, event-driven care that improves clinical outcomes without added patient inconvenience.
Improved Patient Outcomes
1. Various studies demonstrate that Home Monitoring significantly improves clinical outcomes and survival compared to periodic, in-person device follow-up.
2. The IN-TIME study, one of the largest and most recent studies to examine heart failure and remote monitoring, demonstrated a 50% decrease in mortality for patients using BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring.
3. Home Monitoring also has been shown to reduce: Hospitalizations caused by atrial arrhythmias or strokes by 66% (COMPAS) In-office visits by 45% (TRUST), and inappropriate shock delivery by 52% (ECOST)
Early Detection
BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring provides early detection of arrhythmias, including silent, asymptomatic arrhythmias, allowing for earlier intervention.
Replacement Office Visits
1. Historically, patient care guidelines recommended in-person appointments for device patients every three to six months, a time consuming and resource intensive effort for patients and healthcare providers. But much can happen to a cardiac device patient in six months. This valuable clinical data could help guide care and possibly prevent death.
2. BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring offers a convenient alternative to in-person device checks that is easy for clinics to manage.
3. BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring allows follow-up appointments to be catered to each patient, so that patients are seen when needed, rather than on a pre-set schedule. Patients are relieved to know that they are being monitored and healthcare providers are assured that they will be notified of clinically relevant device events in between in-person visits with patients.
